JW's .... why AREN'T we more like JEWS ???
by RubaDub ini never got a good answer on this question and have discussed this with other members in the borg:.
we jw's share a lot in common with jews.
just in this century, both groups have suffered extreme persecution, especially under the nazis in europe.

Because... there's an intellectual tradition in Jewish culture? Asking questions is OK? Material success is OK? Family ties are stronger than dogma for the majority?
Jews have been vistims of ethnic bias as well as religious persecution - it's a gray area hsitorically - Hitler persecuted the people, not just the religion.
There seem to be a lot of differences...

Jehovah will destroy you!!
by little witch ini have wanted to share this event with you all for the longest time, and i am finally ready.
oddly enough, i still feel ashamed that this happened to me, although i understand it wasn't my fault.
the story begins in the late seventies, and i was about twelve years old...... i lived in a very small town in the midwest.

Study on Social Exclusion / Pain Response
by Scully ini saw a report on the news this morning about a social psychology research study done by dr. matthew lieberman at ucla regarding the physical effects that occur as a result of social exclusion (ie, shunning).
the study used mri images of the brain to show changes in brain activity.
the findings strongly suggest that people's feelings can really get "hurt" - social exclusion resulted in increased brain activity in the same areas of the brain that respond to and register physical pain.

Interesting - I think this is the fourth time this story has been posted, and yet each of the threads died right away (the second one was mine - I hadn't seen the first:)
This obviously resonates with some of us but doesn't catch the group's attention as a whole. Odd.

loooove the avatar, tink.
Bradley, the MB does not test who you are - it tests your tendencies. What we do with them is up to us.
By the way, isn't myopic subjectivity better than hyperopic objectivity?

As you make your way through life whatever be your goal keep your eye upon the doughnut and not upon the hole.
Happy Birthday Bradley! I'm 17 by that count now...almost old enough to vote!
I would say to venture into the expereintial, and avoid hanging out in the cerebral too much of the time. Living in one's head can become a great way of avoiding mistakes, but it's an even better way of avoiding great experiences. Take risks, live large, and make enough mistakes to make sure you're always learning.
Take care.

What resurrects, the person or a perfect copy?
by JH ini remember my boss asking me once this question, since he knew i was a witness.
he asked, "what resurrects, the body, the soul, what?.
he knew that witnesses believe in the resurrection of the dead on earth, in a different physical body during the millennium.. i told him that it won't be the same physical body, and maybe won't be identical, but it's the same person.

Are you responsible for others?
by SpiceItUp inthe same reason that ray franz wrote his book got me thinking.
he mentioned that if you saw someone doing something harmful in some way would you warn them or would you let them be completely responsible for themselves.
say that they don?t realize what they are doing is harming them or unhealthy, would you try to take steps to help them?

You don't. You have to try to balance holding others capable and personally making a difference. You have to acknowledge that you will err...and be OK with that.
